BYD’s Han L EV Promises Ultra-Fast Charging, but with Caveats

BYD’s Han L EV Promises Ultra-Fast Charging, but with Caveats

BYD has announced that its new Han L sedan can add 248 miles of range in just five minutes, thanks to an advanced 945V lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery and a 1-megawatt dual-port charging system. The high voltage reduces heat buildup, allowing for faster and more efficient charging. However, BYD’s range claim is based on the optimistic CLTC cycle, meaning real-world results may be closer to 160 miles in five minutes.

To support this technology, BYD plans to install 4,000 fast chargers in China, but a U.S. launch is unlikely due to 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs. Despite this, industry-wide advancements suggest that ultra-fast charging will become more common globally.
