Apple continues to push forward with its AI development, despite facing challenges along the way. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is now exploring the idea of adding cameras to future Apple Watch models, integrating visual intelligence features into its smartwatches.
Visual intelligence enables AI-powered interactions with the surrounding environment, a feature already introduced on the iPhone 16 series with iOS 18.2. Apple’s approach mirrors Google Lens, which has provided similar functionality for years.
Both the Apple Watch and Watch Ultra are expected to include cameras. Reports suggest the standard model will feature a camera embedded inside the display, while the Ultra version may house its sensor on the side, near the crown and power button. Gurman indicates these camera-equipped Apple Watches could launch by 2027.
In addition to the Apple Watch, Cupertino is also working on AI-powered AirPods with built-in cameras, aiming to enhance visual intelligence capabilities across its wearable lineup.
