India leads global list of YouTube takedowns !!!!

India accounted for the highest number of YouTube video removals globally in Q4 2024, with over 2.9 million videos taken down (out of 9.4 million worldwide) for violating platform guidelines. This marks a 32% quarterly increase from Q3 2024, where 2.2 million removals were recorded. Brazil followed distantly with 1.04 million removals, per Google’s Community Guidelines Enforcement report (7 March 2025).

India has consistently topped YouTube’s takedown list since 2020. Recent removals included an episode pulled under a legal order from India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting over “obscene remarks,” sparking government discussions about stricter regulations for YouTube and social media platforms. Notably, the report excludes content removed due to local laws, focusing solely on policy violations.
