Humanoid robot "cops" are now patrolling the streets in China

Humanoid robots dressed as police officers have been spotted patrolling the streets in Shenzhen and Guangdong, China. These robots, seen waving, shaking hands, and following voice commands, are assisting real police officers with patrols, potentially reducing their workload. Videos of the robots walking alongside officers have gone viral on Chinese social media.

China is developing these robots to address challenges like an aging population and a shrinking workforce. The government sees humanoid robots as a key part of boosting economic growth and competing with the United States. In 2023, China installed over half of the world’s robots, and it’s even planning a sports event in August where humanoid robots will compete in activities like football and track and field.
