Google is trialing a new AI-powered Gemini side panel within Google Calendar, designed to streamline schedule management through conversational prompts. Available via the Workspace Labs early-access program, the feature lets users interact with Gemini by clicking the “Ask Gemini” icon, where they can choose suggested prompts or input custom requests. Examples include adding events (e.g., recurring workouts), checking meeting details (“When is my next meeting with Emily?”), or analyzing schedule density (“How many meetings on Monday?”).
The tool aims to reduce manual calendar management by using Gemini’s natural language processing for quicker task execution. Google has already integrated similar AI use case into Gmail, Drive, Docs, and other Workspace apps, with Calendar now joining the list. No official rollout timeline for availability has been announced.
