Anthropic Adds Web Search to Claude AI for Real-Time Insights

Anthropic has introduced web search for its AI chatbot, Claude, bringing it in line with rivals like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Mistral’s Le Chat. Currently available in preview for paid U.S. users, web search allows Claude to pull real-time information with inline citations from sources like NPR, Reuters, and social media (e.g., X). Free users and other countries will get access soon.

For now, the feature is exclusive to Claude 3.7 Sonnet, the latest AI model. Anthropic previously resisted web search, aiming to keep Claude self-contained, but competitive pressure likely influenced this change.

Despite the upgrade, AI hallucinations remain a concern, as studies show over 60% of chatbot responses can be inaccurate or misleading. However, Anthropic aims to enhance Claude’s accuracy by improving source verification.
