The next big update for Android devices, Android 16, is expected to be released in June 2025, according to a report from the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. Google usually releases Android updates in August, but this time, they might release it earlier.
Sameer Samat, Google's President of Android Ecosystem, shared with Android Police that Android 16 and other updates are on track for an early release this year. Google has been using a new development method called "Trunk Stable," which helps speed up the process. This method allows everyone working on Android to contribute to a single branch of code, making it easier to merge and release updates quickly.
So far, only the second developer beta of Android 16 has been released, but it is expected to be ready for the official release in June 2025. Reports suggest Android 16 might be available on Google Pixel phones in the second quarter of the year. The latest beta update (Beta 2.1) included important bug fixes to improve device performance, like better connectivity and system stability.
